Best when you want wood construction but refuse to maintain it.
Perma-Shield® is Andersen’s original answer to the problem with wood doors: wood moves, swells and needs repainting. Here the wood panel and frame are jacketed in rigid vinyl on the exterior *and* the interior, so the door keeps wood’s stiffness and insulating value while presenting a surface that only ever needs wiping down.
It is the model in the 200 Series that offers blinds between the glass — two panes with the blind sealed in the cavity between them. They never need dusting, never tangle, and there is no cord, which matters in a house with small children.
One thing worth knowing before you choose: on this model the exterior color follows from the interior color you pick, rather than being chosen independently. If you need a specific outside color against a specific inside finish, we will check the pairing at quote stage rather than at delivery.
The blinds sit inside the sealed glass unit and each panel is adjusted on its own — which is easier to show than to describe.
A different job. An old sliding barn door on a block outbuilding, and the same opening afterwards.
Outbuilding barn door replaced with a gliding patio door
The windows either side, the block coursing and the roofline are the same in both frames — only the opening changed. Drag the handle, or use the arrow keys, to compare.

A patio door is mostly glass, and the back of a house is where nobody is watching. Laminated security glass does not stop that — it makes it slow, loud and visible, because the pane stays in the frame after it breaks.
How laminated glass worksSealed between the panes — no dusting, no tangled cords, nothing for a toddler to pull.
Rigid vinyl cladding on both faces means no scraping and no repainting.
Dual ball-bearing rollers with levelling adjusters keep a heavy panel moving with one hand.
