Why Andersen Glass?

Premium glass,
flawless install.

The frame gets the attention and the glass does the work. Every package below fits the same window; what changes is how many sheets of glass are in the sash and where the coatings sit. The drawings are cut through the edge of the unit, which is the only place you can see the difference.

Low-E4® Glass Cross-section of Low-E4® Glass: two sheets of glass and one sealed cavity, a coating on the sealed face of the outer pane. Outside Inside

Low-E4® Glass

Two panes one coating

“Reflects heat in the summer and helps keep heat inside in the winter.” — Andersen

The default, and the right answer for most of the houses we work in. A microscopically thin metallic coating on the sealed face of the outer pane bounces heat back the way it came — outward in July, inward in January.

Low-E4® SmartSun™ Glass Cross-section of Low-E4® SmartSun™ Glass: two sheets of glass and one sealed cavity, a coating on the sealed face of the outer pane. Outside Inside

Low-E4® SmartSun™ Glass

Two panes one coating

“Gives you the benefits of Low-E glass, plus it helps shield your home from the sun’s heat and filters out 95% of harmful UV rays.” — Andersen

The same sandwich as Low-E4 with a cleverer coating: it turns away more of the sun’s heat without darkening the room, and it is the one to ask about if you have floors, rugs or artwork that have already faded once.

Low-E4® Sun Glass Cross-section of Low-E4® Sun Glass: two sheets of glass and one sealed cavity, a coating on the sealed face of the outer pane, the glass carries a light tint. Outside Inside

Low-E4® Sun Glass

Two panes one coating tinted

“Offers outstanding thermal performance with a subtle tint that blocks out even more heat from the sun.” — Andersen

Where SmartSun stays clear, Sun accepts a light tint to turn away more heat still. Worth it on a wall of west-facing glass that cooks every afternoon; unnecessary on a north elevation.

Available on A-Series, E-Series and the 100, 200 and 400 Series.

Triple-Pane Glass Cross-section of Triple-Pane Glass: three sheets of glass and two sealed cavities, two coatings facing the sealed cavities. Outside Inside

Triple-Pane Glass

Three panes two coatings

“An extra pane of glass helps keep more heat in and cold air out, making this our most energy-efficient glass option.” — Andersen

A third sheet of glass and a second sealed cavity, with a coating working in each. It is the heaviest and dearest option and it is also the quietest — the one people notice on a busy street.

Available on A-Series, E-Series and select 100, 200 and 400 Series.

Triple-Pane with HeatLock® Cross-section of Triple-Pane with HeatLock®: three sheets of glass and two sealed cavities, two coatings facing the sealed cavities, and a further coating on the room-facing surface. Outside Inside

Triple-Pane with HeatLock®

Three panes three coatings

“An extra pane of glass helps keep more heat in and cold air out. HeatLock® technology reflects heat that likes to escape your home.” — Andersen

Everything the triple does, plus a further coating on the room side that pushes escaping warmth back at you. This is the warmest glass Andersen will sell you, and it is aimed squarely at a cold winter.

Available on A-Series, E-Series and select 100, 200 and 400 Series.

HeatLock® Glass Cross-section of HeatLock® Glass: two sheets of glass and one sealed cavity, a coating on the sealed face of the outer pane, and a further coating on the room-facing surface. Outside Inside

HeatLock® Glass

Two panes two coatings

“Reflects heat that likes to escape your home.” — Andersen

A second coating added to a two-pane unit, this one on the surface facing the room. It is the cheaper way to chase the same winter comfort as a triple without carrying a third sheet of glass in the sash.

Descriptions in quotation marks are Andersen’s own, from their published glass-options page. Availability varies by series and by window type, and the UV figure is Andersen’s.
