Brick is a lagoon township. Developers cut canals off the Metedeconk River and Barnegat Bay through the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and lined them with single-story ranches, so an extraordinary share of the township’s housing sits a few feet from bulkheaded water. Those houses were designed around the view: wide picture windows and sliding doors facing the lagoon, small openings on the street side. The 2012 storm pushed bay water up the canals and into ground floors across the township, and a good number of these homes have since been raised, rebuilt or extensively repaired, while their neighbors were dried out and left as they were. Inland and to the north the township is quieter and more wooded, with 1970s and 1980s colonials and split-levels on ordinary lots.
Waterfront work here starts at the back of the house. We replace failed picture and slider assemblies with insulated, low-E glazing sized to keep the view, and we specify corrosion-resistant hardware that survives lagoon air. Where a home has been raised we detail the new sills and head flashing for the exposure it now has. On inland colonials we do straightforward whole-house replacement, every opening in one visit.
We will look at your water-facing wall first, because in Brick that is usually where the problem is.
